Whimsical Parlor

This small living room is situated directly off of the foyer, and with only three walls, is open to many areas of the house. Justine and her team chose to add a large dose of color, character, and whimsy to this room for the Spring 2023 One Room Challenge.

The idea to add a dramatic floral wallpaper to the ceiling was the jumping off point for this room, which already included several pieces of furniture that needed to be incorporated into the design. Justine knew the wallpaper would work beautifully to tie in the varied colors and patterns of these existing pieces, and chose a rose colored paint for the walls and trim.

Additional seating came in the form of a vintage loveseat which received a coat of black paint on the frame, and some plucky, black and white awning stripe upholstery.

An eclectic gallery wall adds even more visual interest to the room, and includes pieces as varied as family portraits to children’s art, to an authentic work by Toulouse-Lautrec, helping to create the enveloping feel of a jewel box parlor from another time and place. A recent visitor remarked that she felt like she had “fallen down the rabbit hole” when she stepped into the room- a true compliment indeed!
